CITY leaders have written to the people of Cumbria expressing their shock at the massacre of 12 people by Derrick Bird.
Lord Mayor Hazel Williams sent her condolences to the mayor of Copeland, the Lakeland borough where Bird embarked on his killing spree.
Council leader Cllr Joe Anderson also expressed his “heartbreak” at the tragedy. Cllr Williams’s letter to mayor Mike McVeigh read: “It is with very great sadness and sorrow that we in Liverpool learnt of the terrible tragedy of the multiple shootings in Whitehaven and the surrounding districts.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and also with those who are injured and deeply affected.”
