Bulger father urges board to keep Venables in jail
THE father of murdered toddler James Bulger told a parole board hearing one of his killers should never be released from prison.
Ralph Bulger gave a statement to the parole board who are to decide if Jon Venables will soon be allowed to walk the streets again on Friday.
Venables, 28, has served one year of a two-year sentence for having child pornography on his computer, and the parole board will make their judgment within the next 10 days.
When he was arrested last February, he told police he felt the sickening images were “breaking the last taboo”.
Mr Bulger’s solicitor, Robin Makin, said they feared what could happen should he be released. He gave the statement to the behind-closed-doors parole hearing, sitting in Leeds, via video-link from Liverpool Crown Court.
Afterwards, he said: “The concern that Ralph has is that ultimate thrill he is seeking is to relive something similar to the original murder. There is clearly something very disturbing about Jon Venables.”
James’s mother, Denise Fergus, wrote a victim impact statement that was given to the parole hearing.
