LAND Rover has unveiled the latest version of its Halewood-built Freelander 2, complete with pioneering new green technology.
The new Freelander 2 TD4_e, complete with the new Stop/Start system, has been showcased in London this week.
The system, available in manual diesel vehicles, automatically shuts down the engine during stop-start driving. That reduces carbon dioxide emissions by an average of 8%, though Land Rover says its engineers have measured fuel savings of up to 20% in urban traffic.
Production will start at Halewood next year and the vehicles go on sale in May.
Meanwhile, motor industry representatives will today meet Business Secretary Lord Mandelson to call for Government support for the beleaguered industry.
It follows reports that Tata-owned Jaguar Land Rover had asked the Government for a £1bn loan. JLR would not comment.
