LORD Mandelson has admitted breaking his pledge to workers at Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port plant - by going on his summer holiday.
The Business Secretary has jetted off to Corfu, ahead of taking charge of the government next week as Gordon Brown continues his break.
But just two weeks ago, Lord Mandelson promised to delay his holiday until Vauxhall's future was settled, after its US parent General Motors (GM) filed for bankruptcy protection.
He told workers: "I'm not going on holiday until I have a resolution – so that obviously provides an incentive to get it done sooner rather than later."
But his spokesman said he had changed his mind as a solution was not likely until later in August, at the earliest.
