THERE were poignant scenes in the Anfield Kop last night, as Hillsborough justice campaigners paid tribute to some of their most loyal supporters.

At half-time of Liverpool FC’s Champion’s League quarter-final against PSV Eindhoven, a group of Celtic fans handed over a large banner commemorating the Hillsborough disaster and calling for “Justice for the 96” that the Scottish team have unveiled at several matches across Europe.

The Kop revealed their own flag, stating: “Thank you, Celtic. We never walked alone.”

Robbie Ashcroft, of the Hillsborough Justice Campaign, said: “It’s just a thank you for all their efforts and help raising awareness and educating people.

“Celtic have always had strong support for the justice campaign.”

This Sunday marks the 18th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

Liverpool FC’s first match after the disaster was a charity friendly against Celtic in Glasgow.
