What a performance as fame school passes on Environment Agency’s green message

A GIANT rat, nine-feet tall puppets and a band, all made from junk, brought the message of World Environment Day to the heart of Liverpool yesterday.

The Environment Agency teamed up with LIPA to drive home the problems of fly-tipping, using a specially- commissioned work of performance and theatre in Clayton Square.

A large crowd gathered to watch the perfor-mances, with the puppets earning huge applause.

Lunchtime shoppers watched the performance, called Extravaganza, set to live music.

There was also a range of activities and street theatre.

The performance was devised by Matt Smith, leader in community arts at LIPA who is also artistic director of environment-based theatre group PickleHerring.
