BUNGLING Wirral Council officials have admitted more mistakes in processing the planning applications for four phone masts, which were wrongly approved after a council blunder.
The authority held a public meeting last week to apologise after it emerged officers had failed to send letters telling T-Mobile their applications for new phone masts had been refused, thereby effectively giving permission.
Last night, Moreton councillor Chris Blakeley said the continuing errors in dealing with the applications were “cavalier, unprofessional, slipshod”.
He called for an investigation into how errors could continue to be made on such a sensitive application.
Since the errors, the authority has been negotiating with T-Mobile to find alternative sites, and investigating how the mistakes came to be made.
According to the report to the planning committee, which next meets on July 12, officers have recommended the new sites for approval.
But last week Cllr Blakeley handed in a petition of 200 names opposing the latest site in Moreton – only to find it was left off the report to the planning meeting.
The original report also had a map showing the wrong location for the new proposed mast, as well as much of it being largely illegible.
Cllr Blakeley said: “How am I and local residents able to trust the integrity of officers when the errors just continue?”
A spokeswoman for Wirral Council said: “Immediately these minor errors were identified, they were corrected. Planning committee members have received all necessary and accurate information.”
The circumstances surrounding them would be included in the investigation.
