Shelter takes in twice as many animals

A MERSEYSIDE animal shelter is appealing for help since being “inundated” with almost double the number of animals it normally looks after.

Staff at Freshfields Animal Rescue Centre near Formby are struggling to cope with the unusually large numbers of creatures – including rabbits, kittens and hedgehogs – being left at their door, and have had to start a waiting list for places there.

More than 100 kittens, 40 rabbits with dozens more on the books, and 40 hedgehogs are currently being cared for at the centre.

After tending to the sick animals, the centre hopes people will be willing to rehome them.
