A MOTHER has been charged with abandoning two babies who were dumped in Liverpool in separate incidents 31 months apart.
The woman - who cannot be named for legal reasons - has been charged with abandoning the infants that were discovered in Liverpool in 2003 and 2006.
The first was a five-day old baby known as "Holly" who was found in Keith Court, Everton on 24th December 2003.
The second was a month-old baby, codenamed "Angel", who was discovered on just inside an entrance to Stanley Park on July 29th 2006.
Both cases were the subject of major media interest at the time and nationwide appeals were issued for information that would lead to the mother of the children.
A 26-year-old woman from the Walton area of Liverpool today appeared before the city's magistrates court charged with two counts of abandoning a child.
Magistrates imposed a Section 39 Order banning identification of the children and the woman was remanded on bail to answer the charges at a future date.
A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "A 26-year-old woman from Walton, Liverpool, has been charged with two counts of child abandonment following the discovery of baby girl in Keith Court; Everton on 24th Dec 2003 and the disc of a baby girl in Stanley Park on 29th July 2006.
"The woman has appeared in Liverpool Magistrates Court and a Sec 39 Order has been put in place to ensure that nothing should be published that would identify the children.
"The Detective Chief Inspector in charge of the inquires has indicated that to name the mother would risk identifying the children protected by the Section 39 Order and therefore the woman is not being named."
Baby Holly was discovered, by a man making his way home, on a wet footpath wrapped in a blanket in Keith Court early on the morning of Christmas Eve 2003.
She was taken to Walton Police Station where officers called for an ambulance to take her to Alder Hey Children's Hospital where nurses gage her the name "Holly".
"A man left his home at around 7.10 on his way to work heard what he thought was a cat crying.
The second founding, named "Angel", one month-old when she was discovered at Stanley Park by a man walking his dog.
Found with her was heart-wrenching three-page note from her mother explaining that she was born on July 1st 2006 and apologising for abandoning her.
Alongside her was a plastic bag containing clothes and a bottle of milk,
The child, who had a mop of jet-black hair, was discovered by dog walker Billy Oakes inside the park gates, opposite Everton FC's Goodison Park ground.
