Praise for tug crew

THE crew of a River Mersey tugboat were last night praised by coastguards who rescued a crew member of a container ship who was dragged overboard.

The man, thought to be a Filipino crew mem-ber of The Velazquez was pulled overboard after he got caught up in ropes shortly before 11am yesterday.

He lost the tip of his little finger and had to be dragged out of the river onto the tug tow-ing the ship where the Collingwood crew gave him first aid before he was taken to an ambul-ance took him to the Royal Liverpool hospital for treatment.
