Murder detectives renew appeal for witnesses in burnt body

DETECTIVES investiga-ting the death of a young woman who was burnt alive have made a fresh appeal for witnes-ses.

Polish waitress Moni-ka Szmecht, 20, suffered fatal burns in a lay-by in Blindfoot Road, Rain-ford, on June 11 after she was set alight.

Police would like to speak to five people believed to have been near to the junction of Mossborough Hall Lane and Blindfoot Road on the evening of the incident – three male teenagers on pedal cycles and a man and a woman who stood close to a silver-coloured car parked near a farm field gate at the junc-tion of the two roads.

The woman was a blonde in her 20s, wearing a yellow top and a black skirt.

Police believe they may hold vital informa-tion and ask them to contact the Police’s Force Major Incident Team on 0800 230 0600.

Anthony Clarke, 26, of Halsey Crescent, West Derby, has been charged with murder.
