Man, 52, charged with stabbing murder as police renew witness appeal

Murder scene in Queens Drive, Walton

A 52-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of a man in Walton on Friday night.

Paul Michael Williams, a local man, was found on Queens Drive, Walton, at 6.40pm out-side a property near the junction of Walton Lane and Walton Hall Avenue.

The 32-year-old had been stabbed several times.

He was taken to University Hospital Aintree but died in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A post mortem examination took place on Saturday and confirmed he had died as a result of receiving a stab wound.

Peter Armstrong, 52, of Queens Drive, will appear at Liverpool City Magistrates Court today.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the incident, in particular, a person who was seen in the area with a video camera, perhaps on a tripod.

They are urging the person to come forward with the footage even if it does not seem relevant to the incident.

Detective Inspector Paul Hesketh said: “We know a bus driver stopped and helped the man at the scene. This incident happened on a very busy junction, close to the traffic lights, and we would like to hear from anyone else who witnessed the events unfolding.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 4064 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
