Roads crackdown

EIGHTEEN drivers were arrested or fined during a crackdown on two of Wirral’s busiest roads.

Almost 800 drivers were stopped during the operation on the A41 New Chester Road and Borough Road in Birkenhead.

Neighbourhood Inspector Kate Cunningham said: “We are committed to running regular roads policing operations on the borough’s hotspot roads and locations.

“Operations of this kind send out a strong message to anyone using the Wirral’s roads that police and other agencies are clamping down on those who choose to ignore the law.

“We are determined to reduce the number of people who are killed or seriously injured on our roads.”

Four drivers were arrested for positive breath tests, one was arrested for failing an impairment test, nine drivers were fined for speeding, one fined for using a mobile phone while driving and three drivers were fined for not wearing seatbelts.
