Rights leader to pay Liverpool a visit

RENOWNED civil rights leader, Rev Jesse Jackson, will be visiting Liverpool later this month as part of a national tour to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade.

Mr Jackson worked alongside Martin Luther King and was the first black presidential candidate in the USA.

Liverpool was chosen to be included because of its historic links to the slave trade, and to highlight the economic contribution of its black and ethnic minority population.

Mr Jackson will be at the Philharmonic Hall on August 25 at 1pm and will also visit the Slave Museum.
