Grandmother plans city birthday street party for 60
THE first of 300 party packs to celebrate Liverpool’s 800th birthday was handed to a grandmother who is hosting an event for more than 60 children.
Liverpool Lord Mayor Cllr Paul Clark presented grandmother-of-two Carol Lloyd with golden hats, balloons, bunting and badges yesterday.
The decorations will be used at her street party for residents of Rydal Street in Anfield, on August 27.
On the same day more than 300 clubs, churches, societies, streets and pubs will stage parties across the city.
Mrs Lloyd said her party would include a bouncy castle, inflatable toys, party food, cooked solely by the organiser, and a swimming pool if the weather is sunny.
“I’ve been planning the party since July and it is going to be great. I’m made up with the stuff in the pack, the bunting really makes the party,” said Mrs Lloyd.
“The street is closed off from 12-8pm on the day so it is a proper street party for the children who live here.
“My two grandsons, James and Samuel, are also coming to enjoy the fun. The kids are going to have a football tournament as well, I have trophies and medals for them. If it rains I have got a gazebo so I am prepared.
“It isn’t often you get the chance to hold a big bash so the city’s birthday seemed like the perfect time.”
The Liverpool 800 party packs, devised by the Liverpool Culture Company, come in a box and contain 50 golden balloons, 50 golden hats, 50 golden badges, 60m of bunting, a special edition Liverpool 800 game board and 25 golden big dress balloons.
The Rydal Street party will also have entertainers along with nine others in the city, who all won a competition when applying for the party packs.
