Tributes to city centre landlady

TRIBUTES have been paid to a Liverpool landlady who died after falling down stairs at the pub where she had pledged to go on working into her 70s.

Margaret Barratt, known to friends and patrons as Peggie, had run the Coburg Pub on the city centre Sefton Street for 17 years with the help of her son Dean, 41 and daughter Elaine, 45.

Mrs Barratt, 73, was alone in the pub and locking up for the night when she tumbled down the staircase and was knocked uncon- scious last month.

Her body was found by police the next day.

Mrs Barratt, a widow for 18 years, is also survived by three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Her son Dean Barratt said: “My mum was a lovely, caring, considerate human-being, said Mr Barratt.

“She wasn’t only a great mother, she was a great friend to everyone she knew. She absolutely loved running the pub and always said she was going to do it for the rest of her life.

“The locals loved her and she loved them. She enjoyed every moment of her job and was constantly seen with a smile on her face.”

“It’s a big shock that she’s gone . She was the most fantastic person I’ve ever met and everyone will miss her dearly.”

Her funeral at Liver- pool Crematorium was attended by more than 500 mourners.
