Birthday best wishes – from Wirral to Liverpool – arrive on giant card
HISTORIC rivalries were celebrated and put to one side when a giant card was ferried across the Mersey from Wirral to Liverpool to celebrate the city’s 800th birthday.
Mayor of Wirral Cllr Phil Gilchrist presented the card to the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr Paul Clark, yesterday at Liverpool Town Hall.
Cllr Gilchrist said: “I’m delighted to wish Liverpool a very happy 800th birthday on behalf of the people of Wirral.
“Our fortunes and futures are closely linked.
“Wirral’s people are looking forward to the wide range of events which is planned to run throughout this historic year.”
Cllr Clark said: “Liverpool is currently riding the waves of success and this card shows the people of Wirral are very much on board.”
