Candlelight vigil for ‘self-respecting’ father-of-three

Garry Newlove

FRIENDS and neighbours of Garry Newlove last night held a candlelit vigil close to his home and the spot where he was attacked.

Around 50 adults and 40 children gathered almost a week after he was killed outside his home in Warrington, Cheshire.

Neighbour Leanne Dysart who organised the event said to the gathering: “Last Friday night a member of our community lost his life doing what any proud, self-respecting man would do, a man trying to do right by his family.

“What happened last week has rocked this town, it has affected everyone in a way no words can describe.

“You never think this will happen in your town, your own doorstep, outside your own home.

“Our hearts go out to Garry’s family, the loss they must be feeling at this time must be unimaginable. Our thoughts are with you.

“No one deserves to die in this way. Garry’s death must not be forgotten.”
