Force gears up for Paris cycle ride

MERSEYSIDE police officers are gearing up to cycle from Liverpool to Paris in memory of a colleague who died from heart disease.

Steve Young, who worked for the Merseyside Traffic Department in Prescot and Smithdown Lane, died suddenly of heart failure at the age of 48 last November.

His wife Bev and their two children, Katie, 17, and Char- lotte, 14, are devoted to raising money to buy defibrillators for the British Heart Foundation.

Colleagues from Merseyside Police have decided to help raise money by cycling from Liverpool to Paris in tribute to the officer, who was an enthus- iastic cyclist who regularly took part in charity cycling events.

They are setting out from Liverpool city centre on Sunday September 9 and will ride through Leeds, Hull, Zeebrugge before finishing five days later at the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

All the money raised will go directly towards equipment and training at the British Heart Foundation.
