Police renew appeal for witnesses to attack

DETECTIVES investig- ating the murder of a “gentle and mild” home- less man have appealed again for information about how he died.

Homeless Thomas Anthony Dooley, 51, died on Friday, August 24, after admitting himself to hospital with head injuries the day before.

Police are yet to establish where exactly he suffered his injuries and need witnesses to come forward with information.

They are keen to speak to anyone who was with him or saw him in Liverpool city centre on the afternoon of Thursday, August 23.

Detective Chief Inspector Tim Keeley said Mr Dooley had been living on the street for about five years after struggling to come to terms with the death of his mother.

He had three children with his wife, whom he subsequently divorced.

“He had problems with alcohol. His family say he was a gentle, mild fellow, not the sort to get involved in any trouble,” said DCI Keeley.

“We know that he was assaulted on the afternoon of Thursday, August 23, in Liverpool city centre but we don’t know where the scene is.”

Anyone who can help can call St Anne Street CID office on 0151 777 4065, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
