Critically acclaimed film to Sparkle at home town premiere

Liverpool actor Shaun Evans with actress Stockard Channing in new film Sparkle, filmed around Liverpool

A FILM shot in Liverpool will receive its regional premiere tonight in a special event at FACT’s Picturehouse cinema.

Romantic comedy Sparkle, starring Bob Hoskins alongside Grease and The West Wing actress Stockard Channing, enjoyed a sell-out screening at the Edinburgh Film Festival last month.

Liverpool actor Shaun Evans plays the lead role of Sam Sparks, who dreams of moving to London and finds himself involved with an older woman.

Evans and co-star Amanda Ryan will attend the special cast and crew screening at FACT tonight.

“We’re thrilled to be co-hosting this regional premiere of a contemporary British comedy, especially as we were able to play our part in helping to get the movie made,” says Alice Morrison, chief executive of Northwest Vision and Media, which works on behalf of the region’s TV, film, radio and digital content industries.

Evans, 27, originally from Walton, said: “Playing Sam in Sparkle was a fantastic job for me.

“I first auditioned for the part four years ago, but at that stage there wasn’t even a script.

“I’m really looking forward to its national release.”
