Non-stick streets planned for Liverpool

LIVERPOOL’S main shopping streets are to be coated with a special resin to make dirt easier to clean off.

Church Street, Ranelagh Street and Lord Street, which are currently undergoing a multi-million pound repaving, will be covered in a film to make items like chewing gum easier to get off.

At a meeting of the full council last night, Cllr Mike Storey, executive member for regeneration, said the resin would be applied after the work was complete.

He was responding to concerns from Cllr Ritchie White that new paving was already looking unwashed and had tyre marks and gum deposits on it.

Cllr Storey said a programme of deep cleaning street washing would start once contractors had finished work on the new street layout.
