M53 crash rider ‘fighting for his life’

A MOTORCYCLIST was last night fighting for his life in hospital after a crash on the M53.

Police were called to the scene between junction three and four of the motorway heading south early yesterday afternoon.

It is believed the motorbike rider had collided with the central reservation near junction three at Woodchurch at around 1.15pm.

He was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital where police said he was in a critical condition.

However, no details about the age or origin of the motorcycle rider were being released by Mersey-side Police last night.

The southbound lanes of the motorway were closed between junctions three and four all yesterday afternoon and well into rush hour, causing huge delays for motorists as police searched for evidence and the area was cleared of debris.

The motorway was re-opened by 7.30pm.

Officers investigating the incident think there may have been a number of motorists who witnessed the incident and are asking them to call police on 777 5370.
