LIVERPOOL gymnast Beth Tweddle, who won the City’s Sports Personality of the Year award on the back of her world title 12 months ago, suffered an unfortunate reverse at this year’s world event last weekend.
She did manage to lead the British team to sixth in the initial qualifying competition, but then suffered a fall on the bar which cost her heavily.
Because of her need to fully recover from her past injury she did not actually enter the full individual championship this year.
She had to be content with seventh in the floor event.
Tweddle still hopes to lead her team, who have now qualified, to success in the coming Olympic finals. Although disappointed, she remains confident of success for both her team and herself in the Games, after which she will retire at the age of 22.
