AN ELLESMERE Port couple who were badly hurt in a coach crash in Malaysia are among a group of holidaymakers launching a legal battle for compensation.
Chris Evans, 36, and Helen Wilson, 40, of Stanney Oaks, were among 13 tourists travelling between Malaysia and Singapore when their coach plunged down a ravine in heavy rain.
Now the group are suing package holiday operators Explore Worldwide for unlimited damages for their injuries after the accident in May 2006.
They were travelling from Tanjuyng Gemok to Singapore when the accident happened, according to a High Court writ.
The writ claims that driver Ching Hock Chye had been driving dangerously fast, repeatedly overtaking vehicles at speed and on corners, and he failed to concentrate on what he was doing.
Solicitor Ben Townsend said: “If they were on a package holiday they may well be able to sue their UK based tour operator in the English courts and have their damages assessed in accordance with English law.”
