Windmill is blown off course

A DECISION was once again deferred on controversial plans for a modern windmill to be built in the heart of one of Liverpool's best-known conservation areas.

The council planning committee decided there was not sufficient information to make a balanced decision on the proposal despite twice previously considering the application.

Children’s charity Kind wants to build the wind turbine to generate electricity next to their base in Back Canning Street in the Georgian quarter of the city, close to the Anglican Cathedral.

The project aims to create a carbon-neutral facility which will incorporate a number of alternative energy sources, and solar panels are already present.

Chief executive of Kind Stephen Yip asked for the application to be accepted so the centre can make a contribution to the fight against global warming. He said: “We have invested in the city of Liverpool for its children. They need to inhabit the world which we have had the benefit of.”
