QE2: A proud and exciting day, says council leader

THE QE2 yesterday formed the centrepiece to the official opening of the new cruise liner terminal alongside Liverpool’s historic waterfront.

City council leader Warren Bradley described it as a very proud and exciting day for Liverpool.

“We are a city undergoing a major transformation. Look along the waterfront and you can see signs of the building work which is creating a new look to Liverpool, while still preserving our unique architectural heritage,” he told more than 200 VIP guests in the new reception hall on the terminal.

The 16 liners already booked in for 2008 were just the start, he said.

THE arrival of the QE2 gave Merseysiders John and Anne Edwards the chance to offer Scouse hospitality to members of the crew.

The couple, who live in Newton-le-Willows, threw a lunch party for a group of crew members in the Cornmarket public house.

The crew, representing more than a dozen nationalities, enjoyed Scouse and apple pie.
