Ormskirk scouts gather for a weekend of outdoor fun

HUNDREDS of scouts, cubs and beavers from across Ormskirk got together for the Gathering 2007.

Youngsters from the district had two days of fun with many challenges, including climbing walls, assault courses, canoeing, and backwoods cooking.

Mike Nolan, chairman of the organising committee, said: “There were fantast- ic challenges for all ages and the events were well-manned, well-organised and much enjoyed.”

Setting up for the weekend began over a week before the event when dedicated leaders, explorers and helpers began the massive task of putting up the ropes and scaffold towers for the various challenges.

The weekend started with the opening ceremony in front of the chairman of the district council William Cropper, who has pledged support to the Scouting and Guiding movements during his term of office.
