A GLITTERING event themed on the nonsense poem The Owl and the Pussycat takes place at Knowsley Hall tonight.
The evening, hosted by Lord and Lady Derby, aims to promote the historic estate – comprising Knowsley Safari Park, Home Farm, Knowsley Hall and acres of scenic landscape – as an events and conference venue. The Owl and the Pussycat was chosen because it was created by Edward Lear to entertain the grandchildren of the 13th Earl of Derby.
Lear was a long-term guest, under the patronage of the 13th Earl, at Knowsley Hall, and it was there that the poem was first recited to the grand-children in 1867.
