CAPITAL OF CULTURE: Promise of bigger and better Summer Pops next year

LIVERPOOL’S Summer Pops next year will be a month-long extravaganza that is bigger and better than ever, according to its organiser.

Chas Cole, of CMP Entertainment, which has organised the event in recent years, said it would run from July 1 to 31 at Liverpool’s new Arena and Convention Centre (ACC), Kings Dock.

It was also hoped that it would feature a fringe element at other clubs and venues in the city.

“It will be a bigger and better Summer Pops at an amazing new venue,” he said.

“The plan is to have an event on every night throughout July, with many surprises to be announced over the coming months.

“Discussions are also under way for a fringe Summer Pops at clubs and venues around the city.”

The 2008 Pops will be longer than ever before, as it is usually between 20 and 25 days. Mr Cole said it seemed the right time to expand it.

There will also be the perennial favourites of the annual calendar put on by Liverpool’s dance music organisers, Cream.

The annual Creamfields will take place over the August Bank Holiday.

Cream will also be putting on the second Knowsley Hall music festival in the summer and the Liverpool Music week event.

Headliners for these events have yet to be announced, but music lovers and clubbers can expect some top-drawer names.
