UP TO four high schools could be shut as part of a £400m revamp of Liverpool’s high schools, it has been claimed.
Education chiefs warned they had no choice but to sacrifice some schools to ensure the Government comes up with the millions needed to rebuild and upgrade the city’s high schools.
Under the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) scheme, the city’s 30-plus high schools are being rebuilt or undergoing major makeovers over the next 10 years. Designs for some of the state-of-the art schools is already under way, with building due to start in 2010.
Detailed plans of how the remainder of the city’s high schools would be transformed have to land on the Government’s desk by February.
Funding is unlikely to be secured if the council cannot guarantee all the schools can be filled.
