A DRIVE-BY shooting took place in Liverpool city centre on the same weekend a city-wide anti-gun crime appeal in memory of Rhys Jones was launched.
A man was seen leaning out of the window of a vehicle as it drove along Vauxhall Road firing a gun at another car, which was parked at the junction with Boundary Street.
Both vehicles left the area at about 1am yesterday and a silver car was later found abandoned in Ashfield Street.
Yesterday, Vauxhall Road was sealed off as forensic officers searched the scene.
Nobody was injured in the shooting, but police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
The incident took place the day after a Liverpool Unites campaign was launched to urge the people of Liverpool to stamp out firearms.
Gun culture has become an urgent issue in the city after 11-year-old schoolboy and devoted Evertonian Rhys was shot in the neck as he walked home from football.
The youngster is be- lieved to have stepped into the path of a bullet fired by a gang member meant for a rival.
