Leap into void raises cash for charity

STAN BOARDMAN, Liverpool’s Lady Mayoress, Hilary Clark, and council leader Warren Bradley all took a 200ft leap of faith for charity at the weekend.

They abseiled off the Royal Liverpool Hospital.

Joined by the hospital’s chief executive, Talib Yaseen, and Ms Clark’s daughter Georgina, 15, they were among around 250 people who raised money for the hospital’s Linda McCartney Centre.

Ms Clark, 51, had mastectomies at the centre in 2003 and 2004 as she battled cancer, and has praised the treatment she received.

“I’m so glad I did the abseil. It wasn’t as scary as being interviewed about my breast cancer for the first time.”

Mr Boardman, 66, had two false starts before deciding to step off the edge.

After Army volunteers got everyone down safely, organisers hope the event will raise around £40,000 to help cancer victims, as well as patients at the St Paul’s eye unit.
