Palm House hosts what could be the first of many glittering events

A STARLIT ball which raised £8,500 for a leading Liverpool cancer charity has provided the perfect springboard for similar events in the future, organisers said last night.

The Midnight Garden Ball, held at Sefton Park Palm House, was a fundraising event for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation organised by the foundation’s business development group.

Guests were treated to a performance from singer songwriter Katie Miller and a menu created by celebrity chef Simon Rimmer.

The guest speaker was Michelle Mone, the brains behind designer lingerie label Ultimo, and an auction compered by Radio City DJ Kev Seed raised the cash, with the 180 guests digging deep into their pockets.

Prizes ranged from signed Liverpool FC and Everton FC shirts to a villa holiday in Madeira and a meal at Simon Rimmer’s new restaurant, Earle, in Hale, near Manchester.
