Eat out to defeat global hunger

FOUR city centre restaurants are taking part in a drive to reduce world hunger this month.

The Fight Hunger, Eat Out initiative runs until October 31 and participating establishments donate some of their takings or invite customers to make a donation when paying.

Liverpool restaurants taking part are The London Carriage Works and The Side Door, both in Hope Street, Il Forno in Duke Street and Blackburne House Cafe and Bar in Blackburne Place.

The international initiative raises funds to help families living in the world’s poorest countries – including Sudan, Chad and Somalia – in their daily struggle to feed themselves.

Last year’s campaign saw the restaurant industry raise over £140,000 for humanitarian organisation Action Against Hunger.

This year, restaurants want to help the charity reach its target of £250,000.

Pauline Llorca, Action Against Hunger’s campaign coordinator, said: “This is your chance to take positive action. Together we can work towards a hunger-free world, a world where everybody has enough to eat and access to safe drinking water.”
