SEVENTY-FOUR extra car parking spaces are to be created at Ormskirk and District General Hospital.
The hospital’s Car Park B, which is accessed by turning right off Dicconson Way, is being upgraded and extended.
It will bring the total number of parking spaces from 156 to 230, 11 of which will be designated as disabled parking. The car park will also be floodlit at night and covered by CCTV cameras.
Work is due to start on October 15 and will be carried out in three phases, with the first two expected to have been completed before Christmas.
Phase one will include the area nearest to Wigan Road, which will be closed for six weeks.
A spokesman for Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust said: “Because parking is limited on the Ormskirk site, patients and visitors are asked to bear with us and please consider whether alternative transport can be used to get to the hospital during the time of this work.”
