Project wins award and it’s not even built

ONE of the most imposing buildings along Liverpool’s historic waterfront has won a prestige award, more than 15 months before will open.

One Park West, the flagship residential project within Grosvenor’s Liverpool One development, has been awarded an excellence award as the Best Mixed-Use Development in North England and Wales.

It is the first architectural gong for the building, designed by the celebrated architect Cesar Pelli, the man responsible for the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur.

Overlooking the Strand, One Park West will comprise 326 studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments, offices, a restaurant and café.

The award rewards the developer for overcoming the challenges and issues that are faced when constructing such a building successfully, as part of a huge mixed-use regeneration project.

Meanwhile two of the architects working on Grosvenor’s Liverpool One scheme are in line tomorrow for a stake in what is the premier architectural award in the UK, the Stirling Prize. It is to be announced live on national television tomorrow on Channel Four.

Six firms of architects are nominated. Two firms, Haworth Tompkins and Glen Howells are working on Liverpool One. Haworth Tompkins are nominated for the new Young Vic Theatre in London and Glenn Howells for the Savill Building in Windsor Great Park.
