Raid nets guns and heroin

MILLIONS of pounds worth of heroin was seized yesterday from a home in Cheshire.

Northumbria Police also found amphe-tamines and two guns during the course of the raid at the property in Birchwood, Warrington.

The seizure, the result of a protracted operation, is believed to be the force’s largest ever discovery of Class A drugs.

More than 50kg of heroin and 13kg of amphetamine sulphide were recovered from the house, as well as two handguns with silencers. The haul is believed to be worth millions of pounds.

The raid was the result of inquiries made under a long operation which three weeks ago netted 500g of heroin and a large quantity of cannabis.

Northumbria Police said yesterday’s seizure would have a significant impact on the availability of heroin in many North East towns and cities.

A man was last night being questioned by detectives.
