TWENTY-TWO people were arrested for offences ranging from drug dealing to firearms offences and drink-driving, during a week-long anti-social behaviour crackdown in Wirral.

The operation by Merseyside Police targeted the entire borough under the Respect agenda.

Officers raided 10 addresses and made 13 arrests for the supply and or possession of controlled drugs, as well as for firearms offences, assault, burglary, handling stolen goods, theft, disqualified driving and drink driving.

They also discovered stores of drugs including what was believed to be heroin, crack cocaine, cannabis and nandroline.

A truancy sweep saw seven children referred to Educational Welfare, alcohol seizures were made from under-age drinkers, and three new Acceptable Behaviour Contracts were issued to young people.

The work also led to 27 new members of Vehicle Watch scheme being recruited to help reduce car crime, and a graffiti clean-up was held in and around Laird Street, in Birkenhead.

POLICE from Wirral, along with the Port of Liverpool Police, carried out raids in Seacombe.

More than 50 officers joined forces and travelled in convoy to Demesne Street, Seacombe, where they raided three houses and a pub, The Leasowe Castle, under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Six people were arrested for the possession of controlled drugs, and the pub was closed.
