THE biggest-ever group of influential American travel writers and broadcasters arrives in Liverpool today to see what the city has on offer.
More than 100 delegates, in Manchester for the 52nd Annual Convention of the Society of American Travel Writers, are to head along the M62 on a Magical Liverpool Tour.
They will cross the River Mersey by ferry from Seacombe Terminal and embark on a variety of guided walking tours covering Beatles haunts, the World Heritage Site waterfront and city architecture.
The 106 visitors will also see locations including Albert Dock, Tate Liverpool and the Maritime Museum, St George's Hall, the Cavern Club in Mathew Street and the Hard Days Night Hotel, due to open soon.
A smaller group of visitors attending the convention has already visited Liverpool, Wirral, Southport and Sefton in the past few days.
Martin King, director of tourism at Liverpool city region's official tourist board, The Mersey Partnership, said last night: “US delegates have already spent three days in our destination and declared themselves surprised and impressed by what they have seen.
“Surprised because they now know there is so much more to enjoy than our unique Beatles legacy, which they were all keen to explore, and impressed by the wonderful diversity of what we can offer visitors.’’
