Honour for air hostess ‘midwife’

AN AIR stewardess who battled to save a 1lb premature baby at 30,000ft was last night reunited with the youngster’s parents at an awards ceremony to celebrate Britain’s unsung heroes.

Flight attendant Carol Miller, 47, from Calderstones, hugged and kissed Dominic and Nicola Delemere – the parents of baby Alfie who she single-handedly delivered on a flight from Manchester to Crete on April 17 as she was presented with the first of last night’s Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards.

Stars from music, film and TV joined the winners at the Gala event at the London Television Centre.

Westlife, The Sugababes, Stephen Fry, Gary Lineker, Davina McCall and Richard Hammond were among the celebrities at the awards.

The ceremony, now in its ninth year, honours some of the country’s bravest and most inspirational people.

Ms Miller said:“I feel like a super-star not a hero with all this attention.”
