Aspiring movie-makers win the chance to generate some special effects

A YOUNG director has won a £5,000 production budget and the opportunity to become part of the artistic programme for 2008 at Fact.

Terry Cheung, 15, from Childwall, was awarded the top prize at the centre’s third annual Young Liverpool Film Night for his movie, Airborn Freerunning.

Terry, who cites his cinematic influences as John Woo, Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie, makes films in his spare time with his friends.

A second production budget was awarded to a team of film-makers selected from the finalists – Mike Donaghy, 19, for his film A World So Cold, Frances Mitchell, 17, for One Way Ticket, and Joseph Oliveira, 17, for Bounce.

The winners will spend the next six months creating two new feature films, with the technological support and expertise of Fact, to be premiered at Special Effects: On the Edge of Reality, a programme of films and events celebrating the developments in special effects and computer generated images in film, to be held next year.
