A pat on the back for Tourism Award winners

WIRRAL’S successes at this week’s North West Tourism Awards were celebrated before Tranmere Rovers’ home 0-0 draw against Walsall last night.

Council leader Steve Foulkes paraded a trophy presented to the borough for winning the Visitor Experience of the Year for The Open Championship 2006.

The idea came from Lorraine Rogers, chairman of Tranmere Rovers, who had been at the awards in her role as chief executive of The Mersey Partnership.

Cllr Foulkes said with Tranmere making such a good start to the season it was a chance to “pat each other on the back”.

“We thought it was a good idea to show people what we are doing to promote tourism in Wirral to coincide with the next home match.”

Wirral’s other winners at Wednesday’s Northwest Development Agency Awards were the Hillbark Hotel, named Small Hotel of the Year, and Lynn Taylor from the Lady Lever Art Gallery for Excellence in Customer Service.
