Man held over Wirral stabbing

A 30-YEAR-OLD man was last night still being questioned by police investigating the murder of a man in Wirral.

A 42-year-old man was found stabbed to death on the doorstep of a house on Sycamore Street in Tranmere.

The victim was named locally as Graham, and neighbours had tried to help him after he was found at around 9.30pm on Thursday evening.

They described holding towels to his stab wounds as they waited for paramedics to arrive.

It is thought the man may have been involved in a fight before the stabbing, and he was found with a stab wound to the chest outside a terraced house.

A neighbour, who didn’t want to be named, said: “I got a call from my girlfriend. She was panicking because he was lying on the doorstep.

“We were taking it in turns to hold dry towels down on his chest because that is what the ambulance was telling us to do.

“He was unconscious. We stayed with him. One of us was on the phone to the ambulance. It turned up and took him away.”

The man was taken to Arrowe Park hospital where he later died.
