A WIRRAL-BASED project has been launched to provide information, support and advice to the carers of people in the early stages of dementia.
The Caring for Dementia Project will identify carers who are not otherwise known to existing support services and will make contact with them to offer advice and assistance.
The project aims to offer carers an assessment of their needs, to put them in touch with support services and to help them to feel positive about continuing to care for their loved-ones.
Sue Newnes from the Wirral Branch of the Alzheimer’s Society said: “The official launch of the project was a significant milestone for us.
“Raising awareness of the help and advice available to carers will hopefully result in them receiving the support they need.
“We are delighted that so many people in this area of work were able to attend.
“We very much hope that, as a result of this project, the period that people with dementia can remain in their own homes will be prolonged by early identification of their carers and by providing appropriate preventive care and support in the community.”
The project will be run as a partnership between Wirral Council’s Department of Adult Social Services, the Alzheimer’s Society, Age Concern Wirral, Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Trust and Wirral PCT.
