THE Mersey Queensway tunnel was closed for over three hours yesterday after a three-car crash.
The emergency services were called to the tunnel at 11.50am and three casualties were taken to Arrowe Park Hospital by ambulance.
According to police, the crash occurred when an Alfa Romeo, travelling towards Liverpool from Wirral, veered into the opposite lane, colliding with an Astra and a people carrier.
A Merseyside man in his 60s was kept in hospital and his condition was described as stable last night. The two other drivers were discharged after treatment for minor injuries.
The tunnel had to be closed until just after 3pm to clear the wreckage.
