Breakfast show radio DJ switches to legal training

AS A DJ on Liverpool radio station Juice FM’s breakfast show, Joseph Walsh was used to living a VIP lifestyle.

He danced the night away with Liberty X, travelled to Ibiza to DJ with Take That’s Howard Donald and was once even locked in a studio with Holly Valance. Š

So it may come as something of a surprise to learn that Mr Walsh, 30, from Southport, has given all this up for a new challenge – becoming a solicitor. Š

The former DJ, who worked for the radio station for more than two years, has been appointed as trainee solicitor in the employment department at Brabners Chaffe Street in Liverpool city centre.

He said: “I know some people may be surprised to hear of a DJ deciding to become a lawyer but it’s what I’ve always wanted to do. Š I began training to be a lawyer after I finished university but I somehow ended up a DJ.”

While studying, Mr Walsh went on the TV show Blind Date, and afterwards was interviewed on Juice FM by Christian O’Connell.  The pair hit it off and he became the host’s sidekick on the show.

He added: “He labelled me with the awful name ‘Fall Guy Joe’, which I absolutely hated.”

When O’Connell left the station, Mr Walsh ended up co-host, inter- viewing stars including The Sugababes, The Stereophonics, The Charlatans, Pharrel Williams, and some of the Spice Girls. However, he began to feel he was wasting all his qualifications. He said: “I was ecstatic when I found out I’d got the job at Brabners Chaffe Street and I have loved every minute.” Š As well as a new career, he is currently renovating his new house as well as planning his wedding to fiancée Lynsey.

He added: “It’s all go at the minute with a new job, new house and a wedding to plan for but I love the challenge. I think that being a DJ gave me the confidence and a few of the skills that are relevant to me today.

“I don’t regret anything about my long and winding road career path as it has got me to where I always wanted to be in the end.”
