Police seize a ton of illegal fireworks

ONE ton of illegal fireworks was seized from three addresses in St Helens following information from members of the public.

Merseyside police and the Fireworks Incidents Research and Safety Team (FIRST), a joint fire service and police initiative, executed four warrants in the area over the last two days.

Fireworks were found at properties in Sexton Avenue, Derbyshire Hill Road and Cannon Street that were being illegally sold from inappropriate locations and the occupiers did not have the correct licence for storing the fireworks.

Occupants received a formal caution after admitting the offence.

A further 80 fireworks, intended for use as large display fireworks, were seized through the operation and safely disposed of.
