Cash machine raiders flee empty-handed

A GANG of thieves failed in their attempt to break into a cash machine at the Ikea furniture store in Warrington.

The men arrived at the store during the early hours of yesterday morning in two Audi cars.

The men, all wearing hooded tops, pulled up in front of the store entrance, smashed the doors and began trying to break into the cash machine.

However, they fled when security guards announced over the tannoy that the police had been called.

The cars they were driving were both Audi A4s, with the registrations RV56 UEJ and MA54 BXE.

Cheshire Police said it was likely these were false or cloned number plates and have appealed to the real owners to contact them.

Anyone with information should call PC Paul Hancock on 0845 458 0000.
