CHILDREN’S charity KIND yesterday lost its battle to build a power-generating windmill in the heart of Liverpool’s historic Canning Quarter.
Local residents battled against the proposals, claiming a roof-top turbine would cause noise problems and also spoil views of the Anglican cathedral.
Local resident Robin Riley said: “We felt that the windmill would cause many problems in what is a conservation area. There has been strong feelings against the proposal from local residents.”
Originally, planning officers had recommended approval of the turbine in Back Canning Street.
The 12 metre high turbine would generate 5kilowatts of electricity.
Mr Riley and a group of residents turned up at the planning committee, expecting to fight the proposal.
But chairman Cllr Dave Irving recommended the refusal decision made last month should be confirmed.
